CPSI Hospitals Attest to Meaningful Use Stage 2
June 2, 2014
MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Computer Programs and Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CPSI), a leading provider
of health information systems and services, is pleased to announce that
two hospitals utilizing CPSI’s EHR system have successfully attested to
Stage 2 of Meaningful Use. Harrisburg Medical Center (Harrisburg, IL)
and Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (Sweetwater, TX) are among the
first hospitals nationally to have attested to meeting the Stage 2
objectives for Meaningful Use of a certified electronic health record
(EHR). Encouraging the implementation and utilization of a certified EHR
is the goal of the government’s incentive program for hospitals and
providers implemented under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA). Separated into three stages of increasingly stringent
objectives, the program offers eligible hospitals and professionals
financial incentives for implementing an EHR that allows them to meet
the objectives. In order to qualify, hospitals must first submit an
attestation to being users of an EHR system certified to support the
Stage 2 objectives and then provide reporting that confirms their
utilization of the EHR system is within the parameters required during
the EHR reporting period.
The hospitals point to their partnership with CPSI as being a key
component of their efforts in advancing the use of EHRs in their
facilities.
“Harrisburg Medical Center has always been technologically advanced.
We’ve been working towards this before Meaningful Use started,”
explained Rodney Smith, CEO of Harrisburg Medical Center. “We
implemented electronic charting in nursing as early as 2001 and were
recognized by Modern Healthcare in the last year as being ‘Most
Wired.’ Our goal is to have everyone in our community in the CPSI
System, so all the information is there for doctors when needed. Serving
our community and advancing healthcare for our community drives all of
our decisions.”
Richard Pyle, CIO of Harrisburg Medical Center, continued, “Being a
small hospital, we’ve had to do it piece by piece, but we were prepared
for Meaningful Use. Still, it took every department in our hospital to
attest to Stage 2. We worked closely with CPSI throughout the process.
They helped out greatly when we had questions.”
“We attested on April 15, 2014, and are glad to be among the first to
attest to Meaningful Use Stage 2,” said Vicky Rasberry, RN for the
hospital. “These objectives were more challenging, but everyone at
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital worked together, especially our medical
and clinical staff. CPSI’s support and resources were invaluable to our
success in achieving this milestone.”
“We are very pleased that Harrisburg Medical Center and Rolling Plains
Memorial Hospital are among the first hospitals to successfully attest
to meeting the Stage 2 objectives and certainly want to offer them our
congratulations on this achievement,” said Boyd Douglas, President and
Chief Executive Officer of CPSI. “There’s no doubt the incentive program
has been very beneficial to our customers and the communities they
serve. We have been the acknowledged leader in Meaningful Use
attestations for rural and community hospitals since the start of
Stage 1 and fully expect to maintain that leadership through Stage 2
and, looking forward, Stage 3 as well. Our clients know they can rely on
us in meeting the challenges of Meaningful Use and, in a broader sense,
to be their trusted partner in delivering the highest quality of care
possible to their communities.”
